Training of New Doctors
This practice is a training practice, which means we have medical students, pre-registration house officers and general practice registrars working in the surgery.

The medical students are nearing the end of their studies and come in to the practice as part of their undergraduate training.

A different Pre-Registration House Officer will work at our practice every four months. All new doctors work for twelve months full time, those that choose four months general practice spend the eight months on the hospital wards. After this they are fully registered with the General Medical Council and may start specialising. They see patients in surgery, at home and in hospital, they will usually confer with one of the partners about their work.

General Practice Registrars come to the practice as part of their training to work for six to twelve months towards the end of their specialist general practice training.

The House Officers and Registrars often use video cameras during their surgery. This is just for training purposes, the camera is focused on the doctor. You may be asked for your consent to film your consultation and full details will be given to you at the time. The doctor and the trainee will be assessing their communication skills.

Dr Craven is involved in GP education in the North West. He is available to give careers advice to anyone interested in general practice from 6th form onwards.
