Clinics
New Patient Assessments and Well Person Clinics
The Practice Nurses carry out the “well person health check”. Please telephone for an appointment and state this as the reason - a longer appointment is needed. You may be asked to complete a health questionnaire prior to your appointment. The check will cover advice on smoking, alcohol, diet and you will be offered weight and blood pressure analysis.
Maternity Care: Clinic Time - Friday from 1pm - by appointment.
Midwives offer full antenatal and postnatal care and refer to the GP and Consultant Obstetrician if complications occur. Midwives hold the antenatal clinic on Friday from 1pm - by appointment only.
Child Immunisation: Clinic Time - Thursday at 12.15pm - 1.30pm - by appointment
Immunisation is vital for the continuing health care of children. Computer reminder letters are sent to your home when your child's immunisation is due. We would like all children to benefit from full immunisation and if you have any queries, please discuss these with your health visitor or doctor. The clinic is every Thursday 12.15pm - 1.30pm (by appointment only) and is run by the health visitors.
Child Health Surveillance
The doctors and health visitors share this aspect of child health. The developmental checks are performed from birth onwards and we allow you time to discuss your child’s development.
Cytology Clinics
Sister Walsh and Sister Fletcher alternate a weekly Wednesday clinic, especially for ladies who require a cytology test (more commonly known as a smear test) - by appointment only.
Sexual Health Clinic: Thursday and Tuesday Afternoon
Dr Murgatroyd runs a weekly “woman's clinic” on Thursday afternoons. Dr Gilbert and Dr Davies also have alternating weekly clinics on Tuesday afternoons. At these clinics we aim to be frank, open and confidential. We can tackle simple and complex problems, whatever your age, sex or religion. Within these clinics you can discuss any type of contraception - natural methods, pill, mini-pill, diaphragm (cap), intrauterine devices (coils), sterilisation counselling, emergency contraception and implants or injections. You can also discuss Hormone Replacement Therapy. Breast checks and cervical smears are offered if they are due. Advice and swab testing of sexual health matters and counselling is offered. The clinics benefit from being training clinics for doctors who wish to be proficient in family planning matters. You will be treated with utmost respect, privacy, with dignity, in total confidence.

Travel Vaccines
The surgery provides a travel vaccine service which Sister Walsh and Sister Fletcher organise. If you are planning to travel abroad, you may need to be vaccinated against various illnesses. Sister Walsh and Sister Fletcher will be able to discuss your travel arrangements with you and decide if you need any vaccinations. You can download the form here which you should fill in and ring within the week to check what vaccines you need, and when. The charges form for vaccinations can be downloaded by clicking here. This website also provides good information on travel vaccinations.
Private Examinations
Insurance and other private medical examinations are by appointment only. Please specify when booking an appointment that you require a private medical examination.
We charge British Medical Association recommended fees for non-NHS services. This includes private sick notes and reports to private health insurance companies. We ask for payment in advance of the medical examination being carried out, and before reports are written. Please ask what the fee is before booking the medical examination. They can be quite expensive. Some medicals are very detailed and take up to an hour.
Please not that we do not have a credit card machine at the surgery.
Physiotherapy Assessment
The practice is visited every fortnight by a physiotherapist, who undertakes physiotherapy assessment. The assessment takes place at Meadowside. The assessment is arranged by the doctor at your appointment. You may be telephoned just before the physiotherapy appointment to remind you to attend.
Test Results
For enquiries about results, please ring after 11am, when the phones are not so busy. You may be asked to speak to a doctor about the result.
