Access to the Surgery
Meadowside Medical Practice is located just off the Lancaster Pointer Roundabout on the A6.

On foot: Meadowside Medical Practice is located less than ten minutes walk from the centre of Lancaster. It is only a short walk from the Bowerham, Greaves and Freehold areas of Lancaster. The surgery is very close to the Lancaster campus of the University of Cumbria. Click here for a map.
Cycling to the surgery: We have a number of cycle racks and encourage people to use their bikes.

Driving to the surgery: There are five car parking spaces (one of which is for Blue Badge owners) outside the surgery. These spaces are owned by Lancaster City Council and can only be used for a maximum of one hour with no return that day. Please be aware that a parking attendant does check these bays regularly, so if you feel that you may be visiting the surgery for more than an hour, it would be advisable to park elsewhere.
Public Transport: The surgery is easily accessed by bus. All buses that travel southwards from Lancaster will stop outside the surgery. This includes all buses that travel to Lancaster University and the Lancaster campus of Cumbria University. The Stagecoach bus numbers that stop outside the surgery include 2, 2A, 3, 4, 40 and 41. For bus timetables and more information please click here.
For buses that travel into Lancaster via Bowerham, there is a bus stop located about 50 metres from the surgery.
Booking an Appointment
To book an appointment please telephone the surgery on 01524 32622 and speak to the receptionists. Meadowside operates a 'Book on the Day' appointment service. This means that a number of appointments are available each day that can only be booked on the day. These appointments are available to book on the day from 8am, and it is advisable to phone as early as possible. You can also book advance appointments by phoning 01524 32622.
Disabled Facilities
Wheelchair access is through the frontdoor, which is ramped. The whole groundfloor allows wheelchair movement. There are five consulting rooms on the groundfloor and the treatment rooms are also situated on the ground floor. There is a toilet designed for disabled use on the ground floor. The surgery also has a stairlift to allow patient access to the upstairs.
Pram Porch and Dogs

We have a pram porch and you can padlock your pram to it. Please ask at reception. We also have a place for dogs to be secured, near the pram porch.
Computers and Confidentiality
In each consulting room there is a computer and a printer. Any information on the computer is confidential between yourself and the doctors. It is designed to improve the running of the practice, to help patient care and allow fast retrieval of important details. The practice is registered under the Data Protection Act of 1984. All the practice team are strictly bound by the rules of confidentiality and privacy.
Choose and Book
Many of our referrals are now done via the Choose and Book system. This is an electronic system that aims to reduce waiting times for patients. Your doctor will ask whether you are happy to be referred via the Choose and Book system. If you are referred via Choose and Book, we will send you the relevant documentation in order to book or change your appointment through the post.
Suggestions and Concerns
Our practice values its reputation. Suggestions for improvements of the services we offer are welcome and can be left in a collection box near the waiting area.
Practice Complaints Procedure
If you are not happy about the service we are able to deal with questions of legal liability or compensation. We hope you will allow us to look into, and put right any problems you have identified, or mistakes that have been made.
If you use this procedure it will not affect your right to ask North Lancashire Primary Care Trust to intervene if you so wish. Please note that we have to respect our duty of confidentiality to patients. A patient’s consent will be necessary if a complaint is not made by that patient in person.
If you feel you have a complaint you should write to to our Practice Mananger, Miss Vicky Jameson, who will take details of your problem and ensure that your concerns are dealt with promptly.
We think it is important to deal with all your concerns swiftly. We will acknowledge your letter within two working days and you will normally be offered an appointment to meet and discuss matters within ten working days. Occasionally, if we have to make a number of enquiries, it may take a little longer, but we will keep you informed. You may bring a friend or relative with you to the meeting.
We will try and address your concerns fully, provide you with an explanation and discuss any action that may be needed. We hope that you will feel satisfied that we have dealt with the matter thoroughly. However, if you are not happy, we will direct you to the appropriate authorities.
Meadowside Medical Practice has a Publication Scheme. If you would like to see this, please enquire at reception.
